Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions people ask most, grouped by topic. Each answer links to the guide with the details. For a message with an error code, see Error codes reference. For who may do what, see Roles and permissions reference.
Sign-in and accounts
Section titled “Sign-in and accounts”I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
Section titled “I forgot my password. How do I reset it?”The sign-in page has no reset link. Ask a System Admin: they set a new password for you (Users, your sheet, Security, Set a new password…) and give it to you in person or by phone. Then change it on Profile, Security, Change password. See People account recovery.
The sign-in page says “Your email is not confirmed yet. Ask an administrator.”
Section titled “The sign-in page says “Your email is not confirmed yet. Ask an administrator.””You never accepted your invite. Open the invite email and choose your password, or ask a System Admin to resend it or confirm your email. See People account recovery.
I lost my phone with the authenticator app.
Section titled “I lost my phone with the authenticator app.”Ask a System Admin to reset your authenticator. You set up a new one at your next sign-in. See People account recovery.
I see “Your account has expired”. Is my work lost?
Section titled “I see “Your account has expired”. Is my work lost?”No. Nothing you did before is lost. On the expiry date your account becomes view only for 3 days, then it stops. Ask a Project Admin of your project (or a System Admin) to set a new expiry date. See People and roles.
I signed in but see “You are not on a project yet.”
Section titled “I signed in but see “You are not on a project yet.””Your account has no role on any project. The page names the people to ask. A Project Admin adds you on Project settings, People. See Getting started.
I can see results but cannot start a run.
Section titled “I can see results but cannot start a run.”You have the Viewer role, or the environment is Restricted and you have no run grant. Ask a Project Admin for the QA Engineer role or a run grant. See People and roles.
Station
Section titled “Station”How do I get a Station on my PC?
Section titled “How do I get a Station on my PC?”Request one on Profile, tab Station, wait for a System Admin to approve it, then get your one-time code and run the installer. See Install the Orbit Station.
My enrollment code is refused.
Section titled “My enrollment code is refused.”A code works once and expires after 24 hours; a new code voids the previous one. Get a new code on Profile, Station while your approval lasts, or ask the admin who gave it to you. See Install the Orbit Station.
Can I run tests without network?
Section titled “Can I run tests without network?”Yes, for a while. Each environment has an Offline grace (days) that says how long a Station may run without reaching the Console; 0 turns offline runs off. Results are sent when the Station is back online. See Tester guide.
How do I update the Station?
Section titled “How do I update the Station?”It updates itself. When a new version is ready, the Update item in the status bar shows “version ready” and offers Restart to update. The same button is on Settings, Station (row Updates) and on About Orbit Station. If the Console refuses your results, your Station is older than the minimum version: update it. See Install the Orbit Station.
The Station lists old tests, or a new test is missing.
Section titled “The Station lists old tests, or a new test is missing.”The Explorer runs the commit of its catalog. Choose Refresh from main in the Explorer. See Station run features.
Support asks for a support bundle. Where is it?
Section titled “Support asks for a support bundle. Where is it?”On the Station, open Diagnostics. Copy summary copies the checks; Create support bundle builds a file to share. Orbit hides secrets before it writes the bundle and lists what it hid. See Tester guide.
Runs and results
Section titled “Runs and results”My run shows “Error” instead of “Failed”.
Section titled “My run shows “Error” instead of “Failed”.”The run stopped before any test result, for example a failed install or a missing variable. It is a setup error, not a test failure, and it does not count in quality figures. Read the stop reason on the run page. Clear old ones with Delete setup errors on Executions. See Tester guide.
Some tests say “Not run”. Did they fail?
Section titled “Some tests say “Not run”. Did they fail?”No. They did not finish before the run’s time limit. Tests that did not finish are not failures. See Station run features.
Why does my run not count in the quality figures?
Section titled “Why does my run not count in the quality figures?”It is marked Overridden: you changed workers, retries, the time limit or a variable for that one run. Such runs stay out of gates and metrics. Run again with the profile values. See Station run features.
Can I delete a run I started by mistake?
Section titled “Can I delete a run I started by mistake?”Yes. On the run page choose Delete run… and give a reason. QA Engineers delete their own runs; QA Leads and Project Admins anyone’s. The run leaves every list at once; Recently deleted on Executions has Restore for 30 days, after which it is removed for good (its files go after 7 days). Runs in the evidence of a decided release cannot be deleted. See Tester guide.
The report, trace or video link of an old run no longer works.
Section titled “The report, trace or video link of an old run no longer works.”Files expire after the project’s retention (7, 30 or 90 days); the results stay. A System Admin sets the retention in Project settings, Overview. See Project Admin guide.
Quality figures
Section titled “Quality figures”The Station says 100% coverage, but the Console says Watch. Which one is right?
Section titled “The Station says 100% coverage, but the Console says Watch. Which one is right?”Both. Coverage looks at the latest result of each test; Health looks at every result of the last 7 days. A test that failed and then passed counts in the 7 days. See Quality figures explained.
Why did the pass rate jump after a quarantine?
Section titled “Why did the pass rate jump after a quarantine?”Quarantined tests leave the figure; the note “N quarantined, not counted” says how many. When the quarantine ends, the test counts again with all its results of the period. See Quality figures explained.
I marked a test Known flaky, but the flaky share did not move.
Section titled “I marked a test Known flaky, but the flaky share did not move.”Known flaky only takes the test out of the Flaky queue. It still counts in the flaky share. Only a quarantine (QA Lead) takes it out of the figures. See QA Lead guide.
What does “Recovered” mean on a failure group?
Section titled “What does “Recovered” mean on a failure group?”No test fails with that error any more. Resolve the group, or let Orbit resolve it after 14 days. See QA Lead guide.
Releases
Section titled “Releases”Why is my release Blocked?
Section titled “Why is my release Blocked?”The Readiness tab lists each reason under the verdict: cycles not closed, no decision since the last cycle closed, a failing gate, an open high risk, required checklist items or approvals. See Quality figures explained and QA Lead guide.
Can I change or delete a release decision?
Section titled “Can I change or delete a release decision?”No. Decisions cannot be changed or deleted. Record a new one: a later decision replaces the earlier one, and approvers sign the latest. See QA Lead guide.
An approver left the company. The release waits for them.
Section titled “An approver left the company. The release waits for them.”The approver shows No longer a member. A QA Lead removes them on Approvals (Edit approvers, Remove). See QA Lead guide.
Where is the evidence for an audit?
Section titled “Where is the evidence for an audit?”On the release, tab Record, Evidence packs: Download ZIP or Print or save as PDF. Each pack carries a SHA-256 hash. See QA Lead guide.
How do I share a report with someone who has no Orbit account?
Section titled “How do I share a report with someone who has no Orbit account?”Save the report, then Share, Create link. The link works without sign-in until it expires (1, 7 or 30 days) and is shown only once. See QA Lead guide.
Administration
Section titled “Administration”Nobody receives Orbit emails.
Section titled “Nobody receives Orbit emails.”Email must be set up once by a System Admin (Admin, System, Email), and each person chooses what they get on Notifications, tab Settings. See System Admin guide.
Teams messages stopped arriving.
Section titled “Teams messages stopped arriving.”The webhook URL may have changed or the channel is off. A Project Admin checks Project settings, Integrations, Recent deliveries, fixes the URL and chooses Retry now. See Project Admin guide.
Runs wait for a test account.
Section titled “Runs wait for a test account.”Every account of the role is in use, locked out or disabled. A Project Admin looks at Test accounts, Live leases, and adds accounts or uses Force release. See Project Admin guide.
A customer contract ended. How do we remove the project?
Section titled “A customer contract ended. How do we remove the project?”Archive it if the history may stay. If the data must go, a System Admin removes the project with a required export and 7 days to cancel. See Remove a project or an environment.
